We’ve rounded up Adelaide’s best new music for April, including Haptics, Nathan Hui-Yi, RobT and more.
Adelaide’s dork rock trio Beyoncé’s Fiancés’ latest single hits you with that familiar nostalgia of jamming to Fleetwood Mac hits. As the name ‘Midnight Drive’ suggests, the song is the perfect track for those impromptu, windows-down late-night drives where the road is open, the music’s loud, and you’re living in the moment.
DJ Haptics is quickly becoming a familiar name in Adelaide’s live music scene, and now she’s stepping into new territory with her debut acid techno release, ‘Dark Oud’. Using her lyrics from a discarded pop song, she brings her vision for this track to reality by infusing an acid 303 lead with classic techno elements of a rumble to create a groovy, high-energy rhythm.
Having explored a wide range of genres throughout her career, ‘Dark Oud’ marks a bold step in Haptics’ evolution as an artist.
“Being exposed to Adelaide’s DJ scene has introduced me to so many new sounds and genres that I hadn’t listened to before, like techno and deep house. Now I’ve started to experiment with these styles in my own productions, and it’s really helping to expand my sound,” she says.
Nathan Hui-Yi is no stranger to CityMag’s best new music column.
He returns this month with a new single, ‘SHOW EM HOW WE BLEED’, a track that explores the imperfect and unpredictable nature of life.
Through powerful lyrics and a catchy beat, Nathan combines the attributes of rapping and storytelling. With his new single, he confronts issues such as systemic violence and generational pain while affirming a strong sense of identity and purpose.
Newgate Crowd teases fans with ‘Miss you, Everyday’, the first release of the band’s upcoming EP.
Beneath its driving instrumentals and energetic rhythm, the track carries a powerful message, capturing one person’s emotional fight to help someone they care about break free from self-doubt, stagnation, and a cycle of negativity.
In addition to the powerful messaging, the track also serves as a reflection of the band’s current identity.
RobT’s latest dance pop album Retrologue is sure to get you up on your feet and swaying to the beats. The eight-track album creates a sense of nostalgia, taking you back to 80s disco vibes with the perfect blend of chill and retro.
‘Danz Craze’ – the opening track featuring artist Melissa – is CityMag’s top pick.
