Abracadabra! Adelaideâs Cabaret Festival is almost over and if youâre looking for a silly, sexy (depending on what turns you on) and more than slightly manic way to end the season, then The Magic Inside is the ticket for you.

Peter and Bambi Heaven are âloved up delusional dancing magiciansâ. A cancelled cruise ship booking freed a spot in their calendar for a couple of nights and now theyâre ready to spray us all with a little bit of Gold Coast sunshine.
They donât need supporting acts â theyâve got each other (and a sequinned bucketful of misguided self-confidence). Could their love be the greatest magic of all?
A fire warning and a dodgy dance routine kick off the mayhem. The duoâs early-80s soundtrack â think AC/DC, Dire Straits, Steve Miller Band and Billy Ray Cyrus â is the perfect match for their trash-glam costumes and bigger-than-big hair.
Itâs not all spit and spangles, though. The pair have recently wrestled their lives back on track with help from a well-known personal development organisation, so weâre treated to some affirmations with our entertainment.
Ninja Wizards, Blind Samurai, the Grand Illusion â the tricks sound promising and are full of colour and movement, but the poor lovers struggle to keep things under control as they warn us that âthings are about to get dangerousâ. Bambiâs a loose unit. Even when she takes it too far her man canât get enough of her, although heâd be a bit happier if his assistant/lover could get a handle on those wardrobe malfunctions.
Her boot-scooting, high-kicking, gum-chewing solo number is a hoot and didnât ask too much of the two helpers she plucked from the audience. Peterâs mime routine definitely doesnât need words to hold our attention. It steals the show for a number of (very wrong) reasons.
The Magic Inside has more cheese than a stuffed-crust Dominoâs pizza, but at its heart is the belief that anyone can be the change they wanna be. Full marks for the showâs creators, Asher Treleaven and Gypsy Wood, for donning the Lycra and taking their performance to places we never expected (and probably will never forget).
Raise your game, Adelaide, and give it all youâve got for these thunderstruck Aussie bogan magic superstars.
The final performance of The Magic Inside takes place this evening at the Magic Mirrors Spiegeltent.Â
