The State Government has released a new safety video to highlight the devastating impact of deaths on the road.
Last night a man died in a car rollover on the Eyre Highway, bringing the state’s road toll to seven less than a month into the new year.
“Road safety should be a priority for everyone and central to this campaign is a thought-provoking video which asks the very personal question: are we comfortable with losing a loved one on the road,” said Road Safety Minister Tony Piccolo.
“The video, which features the views of South Australians about road fatalities, is a poignant reminder that it is easy to become detached from road crash statistics.
“Disappointingly, last year our road toll was 107 and this year we’ve already had seven fatalities.
“It seems obvious, but we need to remind the public that every person lost on our roads is someone’s mother or father, sister, son or friend.”
Over the past decade, serious injuries on South Australian roads have steadily decreased. However 2014 was the worst year of the past five for road fatalities.
