K&S announced to the ASX yesterday it had acquired Albury-based Aerorefuellers.

Managing director Paul Sarant said the purchase took the freight company in a new direction.

“The acquisition of Aerorefuellers presents an exciting opportunity for K&S to expand its current transport operations into the aviation sector,” Sarant said.

He said the addition complimented K&S’s existing services and operations.

“Aerorefuellers is an excellent bolt-on acquisition,” Sarant said.

“We will look to capitalise upon the growth opportunities available to Aerorefuellers.”

The air freight service was established more than 15 years ago and supplies, manages and operates refuelling airfields in regional New South Wales and Victoria. It also supports aerial fire fighting services in South Australia, NSW and Victoria.

K&S said founders Andrew and Amanda Heath would stay with the business.

Originally formed as Kain & Shelton in 1945, K&S operated out of Mount Gambier and Victoria then expanded into national rail freight in 1978.

In 1988, it was purchased by trucking heavyweight Allan Scott, who turned it into a public company.

K&S now operates its freight services throughout Australian and New Zealand.
