Android phones to act as wallets
Left your wallet at home? No problem. Shopping is about to become more hi-tech in Australia with Android phones enabling their owners to buy their goods without a cent in sight.
ANZ, Westpac and major retailers including Coles are among the businesses that will accept contactless payments via Android mobile phones when Google rolls out the service to Australia next year.
While Australian businesses have been slow to take up the rival Apple Pay service since its launch last month, Android Pay will be available at a wide range of retailers and outlets.

Users will be able to use their phone in the same way as they currently use a contactless card in stores, holding it to a terminal to make a payment linked to their Mastercard or Visa credit and debit cards.
“Aussies will be able to use Android Pay everywhere contactless payments are accepted,” Google product management director Pali Bhat wrote in a blog post.
