Work halts at RAH site as ‘mark of respect’
Workers at the Royal Adelaide Hospital will not return to their jobs until Tuesday as investigations continue into a death at the construction site on the weekend.
The workers met early on Monday and voted against an immediate return as a mark of respect for Stephen Wyatt, 63, who was killed on Saturday.
He suffered crush injuries when he was caught between a scissor lift and part of the building’s structure.
The CFMEU said there would be no work with scissor lifts until further notice.
Wyatt is the second death at the site in such circumstances following one in November 2014.

South Australian Health Minister Jack Snelling described the accident as a terrible tragedy and expressed disbelief that there had been two fatal accidents involving the same equipment.
But he said it was too early to jump to conclusions and make judgments while both police and SafeWork SA were investigating.
The company building the hospital, Hanson Yuncken, said workers were receiving all necessary support.
The hospital is due to open towards the end of 2016.
