Adelaide defector Patrick Dangerfield has been elevated into the Cats’ leadership group, just three months after arriving from the Crows.
Geelong added three new members to its player leadership group at its season launch last night, with Dangerfield, Mark Blicavs and Mitch Duncan joining Joel Selwood, Harry Taylor and Tom Hawkins in the six-man unit.
They replace Corey Enright and Andrew Mackie, who have stepped down as the Cats seek a new generation of leaders that can remain in place for the medium to long term.
Joel Selwood will skipper the side for a fifth season, with Harry Taylor continuing as his deputy.
“Patty bring across the experience from Adelaide that he’s had in the leadership group there,” Selwood said in a club statement.
“We’ve been super impressed with him in what he’s brought already but we expect that he’s going to bring more of that in the years to come.
“This is a leadership group that is not only looking at now but looking into the future.”
