Geelong’s SA milestone man may play on
Record-breaking South Australian-born Cat Corey Enright isn’t ruling out playing on for another AFL season.
Enright on Saturday will run out against the Western Bulldogs for his 326th Geelong match, bettering the 33-year-old record held by Ian Nankervis who played from 1967-83.
The 34-year-old has continued to prove himself against his younger rivals, named best on ground in last round’s win over Adelaide.
He told media yesterday he was in no rush to make a decision on his playing future, similar to 2015 when he waited until he’d played his final game for the season.
“You’ll probably have to wait and see really because form can change quite quickly,” Enright said.
“It’s all about this week.”
Enright believed he was lucky to get a game at Geelong at all, describing himself as “not very good” when he started out back in 1999.
“For anyone who saw me when I first came down, I wasn’t very good and, probably, I didn’t think I was going to hang around too long,” Enright said.
“I was coming from a low base and had to put in a lot of work.”
He went on to win his two best and fairests in premiership years with the Cats and earned All Australian selection five times and said he was still trying to improve each year.

He put his amazing durability down to luck.
“I had my share of injuries early so, hopefully, I got them out of the way but you’ve got to just prepare the best you can and, hopefully, that will give you some continuity,” he said.
