Sarah Louise and her ‘Whipplescrumptious’ Wonka Bar
Adelaide schoolgirl Sarah Louise Graefling has taken a page from the book of Roald Dahl, an author famous for his sense of wonder and imagination.
Inspired by a play Glenelg Primary School was staging of Dahl’s Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory, the 12-year-old student decided to design her own chocolate bar.
“It was all her idea,” says teacher Ruth Dillion. She said, ‘Wouldn’t it be great if we had a chocolate bar to sell?’”
Sarah Louise sketched out a design for the Wonka-style creation. Given the name Whipplescrumptious Fudgemallow Delight, it consisted of a layer of marshmallow resting on a bed of fudge wrapped in Belgian milk chocolate.

She sent the drawing to Bracegirdle’s House of Fine Chocolate – and, with a touch of Dahl-like magic, the SA chocolatier turned the young entrepreneur’s idea into reality.
“Sarah Louise’s design was actually quite intricate, so it was a fun challenge for our chocolatiers,” says Bracegirdle’s owner, Sue Bracegirdle.
Two hundred of the chocolate bars were produced for sale at the performances this week of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, with all profits going back to the school.
