SA’s jobless rate unchanged
South Australia’s jobless rate was unchanged in August, with the state continuing to record the third-best performance on the key measure.
The state’s jobless rate (seasonally adjusted) remained at 5.7 per cent last month, according to Australian Bureau of Statistics data released today, with only NSW and Victoria recording lower figures.
The national figure was also stable at 5.3 per cent.
South Australia’s participation rate – which measures the proportion of people either in the workforce or actively looking for a job – decreased by 0.6 percentage points to 62.2 per cent.

The trend rate increased slightly – from 5.6 per cent in July to 5.7 per cent in August.

South Australian Industry and Skills Minister David Pisoni said the figures showed “there is still a great deal of work to be done to provide South Australians with the employment opportunities they need and want”.
“Today’s figures indicate that more hours are being worked which matches the surveys that indicate increased business confidence in South Australia,” he said.
