Major miner joins SA firm
Former Rio Tinto senior commercial manager George Cumplido has joined the board of South Australian-based mining company PepinNini as a non-executive director.
Cumplido moves to PepinNini from having spent more than 25 years in the global resources industry, including as CCO with Xanadu Mines and as a research scientist with CSIRO in geoscience and energy technology.
He also previously worked as senior commercial manager for Rio Tinto where he helped oversee the company’s Musgrave district project.
The project, which is located in SA’s north-west, is the subject of the farm-in joint venture between PepinNini and Rio Tinto. The venture period was extended earlier this month to December 2021.
A statement from PepinNini said Cumplido’s previous experience and understanding of the project area would be “a key component of PepinNini’s plans to advance the project and deliver value for shareholders.”
Interim-CEO for global defence company
Adelaide-based defence company Nova Group has appointed Julie Cooper as interim CEO following the announcement that Greg Hume would resign earlier this year.
Cooper has been a non-executive director with the group since 2017.
Her appointment follows a report by InDaily in February that Hume had tendered his resignation as the Nova Group reviewed its strategic growth opportunities, which the defence company boss had initiated.
Cooper is set to start in the role mid-July while Nova Group continues to search for Hume’s permanent replacement.
She has previously worked as a management consultant for global consulting firm McKinsey & Company.
Joint CEOs for leading Hills winery
Winemaker Adam Wadewitz and sales and marketing specialist David LeMire will take over the reins of Adelaide Hills wine producer Shaw + Smith as joint CEOs.
A statement from the company said founders Martin Shaw and Michael Hill Smith would “remain actively involved in the business” taking on new roles.
Shaw will become executive chair of Shaw + Smith, while Hill Smith will become chair of the Tasmanian sister company Tolpuddle Vineyard.
Arts and media movements
The Adelaide Symphony Orchestra has appointed fund management managing director Freddy Bartlett and entrepreneur Anton Andreacchio to its board.
Bartlett founded South Australian fund management company ICAM five years ago. As well as serving on the company’s investment trust boards he sits on the Investment Advisory Committee for Public Trustee SA and is the vice president of the Property Council of SA.
Andreacchio is the co-founder of creative industries companies Convergen, Jumpgate VR and Artisan Post Group.
In 2015, he worked with the ASO to produce a virtual reality symphony concert. Of his appointment, Andreacchio said: “I hope that I can help the orchestra engage with new audiences, particularly amongst the entrepreneur community, and that my experience in utilising new technology in the arts will be able to help the Orchestra to navigate the opportunities and challenges in a post-COVID world”.
Meanwhile public relations agency JP Media has appointed Daniel Crago as general manager to oversee the company’s growth strategy.
Crago has more than a decade’s experience in management roles.

Government appointments
Susan Filby and Christopher Ford have been appointed to the SA Water Board. Filby is a facilitator at Behind Closed Doors and a former non-executive director at SA Water while Ford is an Associate Professor at the University of Adelaide’s School of Agriculture, Food and Wine. Carolina Kerkhof, Christine Trenorden and Christopher Stathy have been appointed to the board of the Environment Protection Authority.
