My wife are I are presently self isolating, having returned home on 14 September from a visit to Sydney.
Our first COVID test was negative and we are obliged to have another one tomorrow. We are required to continue to self-isolate until this Sunday, notwithstanding the opening of the NSW border.
However, others from NSW can fly into SA as from today without restriction. This seems to make no sense at all.
There is no objective, logical reason why we (and others like us) should not be released from quarantine now. To do otherwise makes a mockery of, and erodes public confidence in, the system. – Greg Howe

It makes no sense to me that Australians can return to South Australia from overseas, but not from Victoria.

It’s really pleasing to hear Treasurer Josh Frydenberg say: “There will be no shortage of initiatives in the budget to help people to get off the JobSeeker payment and into a job,”
Given that in Sydney and Melbourne, there are 12 applicants for every job vacancy, and presumably similar statistics exist across the country, perhaps one of the things he could include is the one thing that has been independently modelled by economic experts to create jobs.
Deloitte Access Economics and KPMG have both modelled the increased JobSeeker payments as increasing demand and therefore generating jobs, with a particular focus on regional areas. Deloitte went further to say that there was no evidence that the increased payments were a barrier to job seeking and with an extra 400,000 expected to lose their jobs as JobKeeper ends, the numbers of people seeking work will continue to vastly exceed the availability of job vacancies.

A recent study showed that 47% of employers are having difficulty finding people to fill job positions.
There are a million Australians currently out of work.
There are 30,000 jobs fruit picking and vegetable picking that farmers cannot fill. The work used to be done by overseas backpackers.
It is about time those out of work actively sought work, instead of whingeing that the government does not pay them enough and they may have to dig into their savings.
Social security is a hand up, not a hand out. This is the lucky country where we are all well-looked after and have numerous opportunities.
It is time Australians stopped bludging, and reassessed themselves and considered what it was that made Australia the lucky country. – Mark Simpson
