The death of a six-year-old girl found unresponsive in her home in Adelaide’s north has prompted a police taskforce investigation into whether she was criminally neglected along with five other siblings in the same house.
Police say the six-year-old girl was taken to the Lyell McEwin Hospital last Friday, July 15, after being found unresponsive in her Munno Para home. She died shortly after arrival.
The girl’s death has been declared a major crime due to the health condition she was found in, police announced late on Monday.
A police taskforce, “Task Force Prime”, will investigate the girl’s death as a case of criminal neglect causing death.
It will also examine criminal neglect charges relating to five other siblings who were living in the same house.
The children, aged between seven and 16, have since been removed from the home, police said.
The police taskforce will also conduct a coronial investigation into the six-year-old child’s death.
Police said more information about the investigation will be released in the coming days.
Criminal neglect causing death comes with a maximum possible sentence of life in prison.
