The club said today that Houghton’s foot became caught beneath her body during a tackle in the second quarter at Alberton.

The 28-year-old was operated on last night and is expected to be sidelined for six to seven weeks.

Port Adelaide said other injury-listed players Britt Perry and Litonya Cockatoo-Motlap are recovering well and should be available for selection within the next two weeks.

Houghton’s injury is a huge blow for the club in its first AFLW season.

She was a two-time All Australian at Fremantle and Port Adelaide’s most significant signing alongside inaugural captain Erin Phillips.
