 SALA CEO steps down for new role

Kate Moskwa has announced her intention to step down as CEO of the South Australian Living Artists Festival (SALA) to start a role managing special collections and archives at the University of Adelaide.

Moskwa has around 18 years of experience in the arts sector and started as CEO of SALA in October 2018.

Before this, she was program manager and program coordinator of SALA.

I acknowledge that Kate’s vision and passion for the arts have not only enhanced the opportunities for SALA but have also embedded this beloved Festival into the fabric of our community,” said SALA chair Alexandrea Cannon.

“Her contributions have been invaluable, and her efforts have solidified SALA as a cornerstone of South Australia’s cultural landscape.”

SALA’s interim CEO Bridget Alfred will take over the reins following Moskwa’s departure.

Archer Materials CEO departs early

Dr Mohammad Choucair has stepped down as Archer Materials Limited’s CEO after the company announced he would depart on January 17, 2025.

Archer Materials said the early resignation was mutually agreed to with Dr Choucair given the start of its TMR quantum sensor project and the announcement of a refreshed corporate strategy.

Choucair had been CEO at Archer Materials since December 2017 and said he led “the company to develop disruptive tech that address[es] complex global challenges”.

Archer Materials said it is a semiconductor company that is advancing the quantum technology and medical diagnostics industries.

Planning expert joins SA Housing Trust board

Planning expert Chelsea Lucas has been appointed to the South Australian Housing Trust board, replacing Linda Matthews.

Planning Minister Nick Champion said Lucas would “help deliver critical strategic planning to improve public housing in the state”.

Lucas is currently the manager of governance and legislation at the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Before this, she was a senior adviser at the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure and a ministerial advisor to former Planning Minister John Rau.

Champion said the Malinauskas Labor government has stopped the sale of public housing properties and would fast-track over 1,000 homes projected for completion by 2026 as part of its commitment to the SA Housing Trust.

Orbis Wines appoints head winemaker

Verity Cowley has joined Orbis Wines as its managing director and head winemaker.

Orbis Wines said Cowley has “15 years of experience in winemaking and viticulture, with a reputation for expertise in certified organic and preservative-free winemaking”.

Before joining Orbis Wines, Cowley was head winemaker at Temple Bruer Wines, a winemaker at Trautwien Weinkellerei in Lonsheim, Germany and a laboratory technician at Fowles Wine.

Orbis Wine said that Cowley’s appointment “promises to reinforce Orbis Wines’ position as a pioneer in sustainable wine production, driving innovation while honouring the essence of McLaren Vale’s unique terroir”.

Elders non-executive director to retire

Raelene Murphy has indicated her intention to retire from the Elders Limited board.

Murphy will not seek re-election at the Elders’ annual general meeting on December 19, 2024.

Murphy is based in Melbourne and has been a board member for Elders since January 2020.

She is also both a non-executive director and chair of the audit committee at Tarcorp, Integral Diagnostics and Bega Cheese Limited.

She also spent over six years as CEO of Delta Group of Companies in Melbourne.

“On behalf of Elders, we thank Ms Murphy for her service to the Company and wish her the very best for the future,” said Elders chair Ian Wilton.

Elders is an agribusiness headquartered in Adelaide.

SA lawyers join Sydney investment management firm

South Australian lawyers Henry Davis and Angela Wang have been appointed to the Clime Investment Management board.

Davis joins as a non-executive director while Wang joins as joint company secretary.

Davis and Wang will join the board alongside Clime’s current chief investment officer Will Riggall, who has joined as executive director.

Davis is a tax lawyer who is principal of Henry Lloyd Davis PTY LTD, as well as a City of Adelaide councillor and a senior Freemason.

“The managing director and two of the board are now from SA. It’s good there will be more SA representation on the ASX,” said Davis.

Wang is currently a senior associate at Norman Waterhouse, where she leads its migration practice.

Wang has been at Norman Waterhouse for over 14 years and is also director of the Australia China Young Professionals Initiative (SA branch).

The appointments come as Clime announced the resignation of 3 board members last week.

Clime is an ASX-listed investment management firm headquartered in Sydney.

Jumping on board at Duxton Farms

Duxton Farms Limited has appointed Rachel Triggs to its board as an independent non-executive director.

The qualified winemaker and lawyer has held senior roles at Wine Australia, including as general counsel and head of ESG and market access.

“Ms Triggs is an experienced senior executive and governance professional with over 20 years of experience in the Australian grape and wine sector,” the company said.

“With a diverse base of knowledge and experience covering legal and corporate governance, supported by a strong background in agriculture and science, her appointment adds a new, unique and independent perspective to the Board as it continues to execute on its strategy to expand and broaden its exposure to the Australian agricultural sector.”

Moving on up at Eckermann Lawyers

Adelaide-based property and commercial law firm Eckermann Lawyers has promoted Jack Prance as a director.

Eckermann Lawyers said that since joining in 2018, Prance “has established himself as a leading property lawyer in South Australia, delivering practical and timely advice in property, real estate, commercial and agribusiness law”.

Eckermann Lawyers is a boutique firm on Flinders Street specialising in property and commercial law.

Estate planning specialist joins Wallmans Lawyers

Zeena Anthony-Qureshi has been appointed as a senior associate at Wallmans Lawyers on its Wills and Estate Planning team.

Wallmans Lawyers said Anthony-Qureshi “has specific expertise in estate and succession planning, asset protection and wealth management, and taxation and superannuation”.

Anthony-Qureshi has around 17 years of experience as a lawyer and before joining Wallmans Lawyers, she was a senior associate at Piper Alderman.

Wallmans Lawyers is an Adelaide-based law firm specialising in commercial law, commercial litigation, employment law, liquor licensing and planning and development.
