Rain is on the way for SA, while travellers interstate can expect mixed conditions. See the forecast.
Easter is often a chance for many Australians to travel and enjoy some of the last warm weather with family and friends ahead of the descent into winter.
As Good Friday fast approaches, the Bureau of Meteorology has released its forecast through to the Easter Monday holiday to help us plan our long weekend – no matter where we will be.
South Australia can expect a mixed weekend of weather as a looming cold front signals the end of extended summer conditions.
Adelaide will see a warm Friday, hitting a top of 28 degrees, before showers move in overnight through to Saturday, bringing the temperature down to a high of 26.
Showers are expected to linger throughout Sunday and Monday, as temperatures drop to the low 20s.
Further south, rain is expected in Mt Gambier throughout the duration of the long weekend, with temperatures sitting in the mid 20s, before dropping to 18 degrees on Sunday and working its way back up to 20 degrees on Monday.
Meanwhile, Port Augusta is less likely to receive rain with temperatures remaining in the low 30s to high 20s on Friday and Saturday, before dropping to low 20s on Sunday and Monday.
Out west, showers will also make their way to Ceduna before clearing on Monday with temperatures remaining warm on Friday, before settling in the low 20s.
NSW will have a mainly pleasant start to the Easter break, beginning with a warm and sunny Good Friday.
However, a low-pressure system developing later in the weekend could bring cooler, wetter weather.
“By Easter Sunday and Monday, we could see that low bring cooler, wetter and cloudier conditions into parts of NSW,” Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Angus Hines warned.
Sydney is expecting a warm long weekend, with early cloud ahead of a sunny 25 degrees on Friday, 27 degrees on Saturday and 30 degrees on Easter Sunday, ahead of a possible change and a wet Monday with a high of 25.
The ACT is forecast for a sunny 26 degrees on Friday and Saturday, ahead of a partly cloudy 25 on Sunday and possible showers and 21 degrees on Monday.
Queensland will also have a mostly sunny start to the weekend, although there are warnings of tropical activity brewing, particularly in the state’s north.
Rain is expected to ease later, bringing sunny weather over the Easter weekend, with some showers predicted for coastal areas of Queensland.
The BoM said it would monitor a tropical low that could move towards the Gulf of Carpentaria and bring heavy rainfall to the north later next week.
“Between Monday and Friday next week, we’re looking at some light costal showers for much of the east coast and the north tropical coast which may include K’gari (Fraser Island) and parts of the Sunshine Coast,” BoM senior meteorologist Steve Hadley said.
Brisbane can expect a sunny 28 degrees on Good Friday, followed by 28 degrees on Saturday and 30 degrees on both Sunday and Monday.
Victorians have enjoyed some unseasonably warm and dry weather in recent days, but will need to prepare for a dramatic change over the weekend.
After a warm and sunny Good Friday, the state is expecting to be hit by a cold front moving through the Great Australian Bight late Saturday. It will bring rain and cooler weather.
“We’re expecting a change to much cooler weather, much cloudier weather, and there’ll be some showers moving through as well,” according to BoM senior meteorologist Dean Narramore.
Melbourne can expect a partly cloudy 28 degrees on Good Friday before 27 degrees on Saturday with a chance of showers.
The temperature will plunge on Easter Sunday to 20 degrees with rain, dropping further on Monday to a wet 18 degrees.

Tasmania will also be susceptible to the cold front and wet weather throughout the long weekend.
The weather bureau predicts the current damp weather across the state will warm slightly on Friday before a chilly Easter.
Hobart can expect showers a partly cloudy Friday with 24 degrees, dropping to a rainier 21 degrees on Saturday before more showers on Easter Sunday and Monday, with highs of 18 degrees.
Western Australia will have reasonable weather in the south, while the north of the state braces for a possible tropical cyclone.
A tropical low north of Broome, moving slowly westwards, is forecast to develop into a tropical cyclone, although it’s not yet known if it will impact the coast.
Broome can expect hot and wet weather through the weekend with temperatures in the low 30s.
Perth is forecast to enjoy a warm and sunny long weekend, with a partly cloudy 24 degrees on Friday, a sunny 23 on Saturday, 26 degrees on Sunday and 30 degrees on Monday with the chance of a late shower.
A tropical system in the Gulf of Carpentaria could also affect the Northern Territory over the weekend, although the south and central regions can expect a hot and dry Easter.
Darwin is forecast to experience temperatures of 33 degrees across the weekend with the chance of a shower, until a dry and sunny Monday with a top of 34.
